KE4U - Operating Position  I've been a ham since 1993 when some colleagues at my
former employer and the now defunct Bell Northern Research (Nortel’s R&D division)
goaded me into studying for the exams. I am glad they did - this is a great hobby - I
have spent a lot of time (and some money) along the way. An amateur radio license
is a license to experiment with communications and communications technology,
which is first class entertainment for me. I get on the air occasionally to fool around
some in various digital and analog modes, contests, DXing, rag chews, nets etc. I
have a nicely equipped radio station and enjoy using it when time permits. I enjoy
writing software for the amateur community.

I enjoyed assembling and operating my Elecraft K3. I give it great ratings and it has
design elements that other Elecraft products have that appeal to a A+ operator as
well as the casual weekend DX warrior.  Elecraft is a fine company with excellent
engineering, materials, ergonomic design and customer support.

The Harris RF-601 1KW automatic antenna coupler is really flexible matching a
random length horizontal wire or dipole. This is a piece of  1980's technology that is
now hard to find at a reasonable price. You have to ask yourself, do I really need a
nitrogen pressurized antenna tuner rated for 1KW continuous power dissipation?

HF Antenna is a 3 element SteppIR up about 55 feet.  Lots of gain, sharp nulls,
automatic tuning, excellent engineering and materials - the list goes on....

The 55’ crank-up tower and 20’ double-tube steel mast is very convenient but as the
years pass the thing gets heavier and heavier to crank. Chuck, K4NYS,  is on the
tower completing the SteppIR installation.

Radio Cats:
Charlie was an 18 June 2001 birthday gift from daughter Tracy. He is very
independent and extremely busy with his own agenda, but likes to eat a lot. We get
along great!

This is Dido (as in Bandido), the most beautiful cat living today. Ask Gina if you don't
believe me.
